Mobility Lab Helsinki starts operations: Digital twin lays foundation for innovations

Mobility Lab Helsinki is a testbed for new smart mobility innovations. For companies, it offers opportunities to develop and pilot new services and technologies. The project particularly delves into the efficient utilisation of mobility data and digital twins.

Major event in health tech, HIMSS22 Europe, brings health innovations and pioneers to Helsinki in June

The major event in healthcare and health technology, HIMSS European Health Conference & Exhibition, takes place in June at Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre. The industry-leading European congress will showcase the world’s best digital health innovations and bring together companies, experts and decision-makers developing them, along with state-of-the-art programme and an extensive exhibition.

Korkeasaari Zoo got an AR game developed together with schoolchildren

An innovation experiment by the City of Helsinki and the Korkeasaari Zoo produced a learning game called Sademetsän henki (Spirit of the Rainforest) for the Amazonia house. The interactive game is designed for schoolchildren and other visitors to Korkeasaari Zoo to enrich the visit. With immersive content, the narrative game diversifies the visitor experience and illustrates the layered nature and species diversity of rainforests. The visual user experience brings rainforests closer to Korkeasaari Zoo visitors.

Innovation competition: Ethical AI in Learning

The City of Helsinki invites companies to develop ethical artificial intelligence (AI) solutions to support personalised learning processes and individualised learning materials. Helsinki is in the global forefront of developing innovations for the education sector. In 2016, Helsinki was the first capital in the world to create a digitalisation strategy for learning, and the City is also a global pioneer in innovations and equality related to learning.

Pilot in Helsinki produced detailed traffic information, helps recognise risky situations

Nodeon Finland piloted new technology to analyse traffic and improve traffic safety. The technology is based on LIDAR and AI. During the pilot, a traffic census with an accuracy of over 95 per cent was achieved and developmental leaps were taken towards a C-ITS solution that improves traffic safety.

Greater Helsinki joins world’s top clean technology startup ecosystems

Greater Helsinki has been ranked among the world’s top 25 clean technology, or cleantech, startup ecosystems in the recently released Global Startup Ecosystem Report: Cleantech Edition. The report was compiled by the esteemed startup research and policy advisory organisation Startup Genome.

Companies and RDI actors can recommend their own solution to the City of Helsinki for testing. We review proposals on a regular basis and aim to respond to them as soon as possible. The proposals are treated with confidentiality.
