Helsinki City Housing Company – Heka innovation program

Apply for the Innovation Program by 5th December 2021 to present offer your solution for low carbon housing to Helsinki City Housing Company! As the largest lessor in Finland, Helsinki City Housing Company HEKA maintains a building portfolio that includes over 50,000 apartments serving over 92,000 residents.

Ten teams have started in the first incubation programme for education technology

EdTech Incubator Helsinki is the first business incubator in Finland to focus on supporting young start-ups in education technology. It started operating in early November.

Seniors exercised actively in company challenges of Helsinki Physical Activity Programme

The City of Helsinki set an increase in physical activity as one of the main goals of its City Strategy for 2017–2021. Companies were also approached to seek solutions for fighting a sedentary lifestyle. In early 2021, we started a pilot project for companies to increase the activity of seniors living at home in Helsinki. The digital pilots were implemented with two companies, Rehaboo and Fustra. Based on the feedback from seniors, these pilots were seen as useful and increasing activity. Based on the pilots, the companies received several ideas for the development of their products, which will help them serve the senior target group even better in the future.

Zoan to introduce a virtual learning experience to Korkeasaari Zoo

The City of Helsinki and Korkeasaari Zoo have chosen virtual studio Zoan to develop XR content for the rainforest section of the zoo’s two tropical houses. Korkeasaari Zoo wants to tap into the potential of virtual reality technology to grow its user experience, especially through the building of an interactive learning path for school groups. The collaborative project brings together experts from different fields to build an integrated and inspiring learning environment.

Circular economy cluster launched with the emptying of over 10,000 square metres in Katajanokka

In a few years, Katajanokanlaituri 4 will be the site of Spring – a meeting place for city residents and service providers, a hotel and the headquarters of Stora Enso.

The City of Helsinki has launched a cluster programme for circular economy in construction, the goal of which is to both promote innovation and business operations related to circular economy and contribute to climate goals.

Companies and RDI actors can recommend their own solution to the City of Helsinki for testing. We review proposals on a regular basis and aim to respond to them as soon as possible. The proposals are treated with confidentiality.
