Helsinki invited concrete companies to innovate new solutions for reducing emissions – four companies to carry out pilots with the City

The City of Helsinki wants to promote more efficient material use and invited concrete companies to try whether insulation wool from demolished buildings could be reused in the manufacture of concrete. The objective was to reduce the carbon footprint of concrete by developing new concrete recipes and products that utilise powdered demolition wool. A total of nine concrete industry companies took part in the experiment, four of which will get to pilot their solutions with the City.

City of Helsinki invites architecture and civil engineering students of Aalto University to design new storages from dismantled building parts

The Closing Loops student competition, launched in October, is seeking a concept for a storage building for outdoor exercise venues that will be built from construction materials and parts recovered from the City of Helsinki’s demolition projects. The objective is to develop the City’s carbon-neutral construction in accordance with the principles of circular economy. The competition will be open until the end of February.

Looking for digital interpretation solutions for Family and Social Services

The City of Helsinki is inviting companies to develop digital interpretation solutions together with the professionals and clients of the City’s Social Services and Health Care Division. Companies can participate in this innovation challenge by submitting a tender by 26 October.

New service by City of Helsinki, HUS and Metropolia University of Applied Sciences expediting health sector companies’ entry into market

Health Proof Helsinki is a health sector ecosystem built by the City of Helsinki, HUS Helsinki University Hospital and Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, the purpose of which is to streamline companies’ research and testing path. The grand opening of Health Proof Helsinki was held on 5 October 2022 at the Myllypuro campus of Metropolia.

Digital leap in circular construction – shared data supports ambitious goals

To utilise materials from demolished buildings efficiently, it is required that information about the materials’ quality and quantity is available well in advance. In Vattuniemi, Lauttasaari, a shared digital platform makes operations much easier as it brings the data on the material flows into one place.

New call for Urban Tech Helsinki incubator to start

Urban Tech Helsinki is a business incubator that supports innovative and growth-oriented companies that focus on solving the challenges of modern cities. The main objective of the incubator is to seek clean and sustainable urban solutions. Operations focus in particular on clean energy, mobility, sustainable construction and urban development, circular economy and urban food production.

Companies and RDI actors can recommend their own solution to the City of Helsinki for testing. We review proposals on a regular basis and aim to respond to them as soon as possible. The proposals are treated with confidentiality.
