SOLMU – New Mobility Services in the Key Hubs of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area
The SOLMU project develops mobility services in key transport hubs in collaboration with companies and launches an ecosystem for regional mobility service development.

The SOLMU project focuses on developing business activities related to mobility services, particularly in transport hubs and their commercial environments. In addition, the project aims to create a regional ecosystem for mobility service development. SOLMU seeks to improve the attractiveness and functionality of mobility services such as public transport and travel chains, while promoting equality and accessibility in mobility.
The project offers SMEs the opportunity to develop and test their products and services in a real urban environment together with actual users and residents. At the same time, cities and public transport operators gain valuable insights into what mobility service hubs should look like and where they should be located. One to two test environments will be provided in transport hubs in Helsinki and Espoo.
Objectives
- Strengthen the product and service development of participating SMEs to a competitive level.
- Create a regional smart mobility ecosystem of actors.
- Increase the capabilities of SMEs in areas such as international networking and cooperation, commercial and RDI collaboration, accessibility-oriented solution development, and data-driven management.
The project will engage 50 mobility service companies in the Helsinki metropolitan area to co-develop new products and services, with the goal of creating 15–20 new innovations and implementing 8–12 practical service pilots.
Expected Impacts
Indirectly, the project will enhance the attractiveness and functionality of mobility services, public transport, and travel chains. Services will become more accessible and widely used, reducing private car use — and consequently lowering traffic emissions, congestion, and safety risks.
